Oatmeal has long been a favorite breakfast dish and is meal that is not only a quick hunger fix, but is also full of wonderful health benefits. Oats provide a good source of fiber and are a great way to lower one’s blood cholesterol. Oatmeal is also recognized by the Food and Drug Administration as a food that may reduce the risk of heart disease in combination with a normal low-fat eating regimen. If you think that oatmeal is a popular dish in the United States, you will be surprised to learn that it has a number of long traditions in other countries. In Scotland, oatmeal has been a popular grain option for many years because oats are easier to grow than wheat particularly in light of the area’s short wet growing seasons. Traditionally, the Scots grind the oats into a coarse powder, separating it into different batches depending on the coarseness. Face Masks Of Oatmeal:

Here are few simple ways in which you can prepare face masks using oatmeal and apply them regularly on your face:

Deep Cleansing Face Mask:

Mix 1 tablespoon of finely grounded oatmeal with 1 tablespoon of live organic yogurt and 1 small spoon of honey. Just beat the mixture until it becomes consistent enough to spread all over. If you warm the honey it will give more consistency to the mixture. Apply the mixture on a clean face and leave it on for  10- 15 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water and see the results.

Honey And Oatmeal Face Mask:

Mix 1 teaspoon olive oil, 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon instant oatmeal. Blend all these ingredients to make them consistent. Apply the mixture to  your face and leave it on for a few minutes. Rinse it off with luke warm water.

Oatmeal And Egg White Mask:

Mix oatmeal with one  egg white. Blend well and then apply to your face. Leave it on until it dries, which should take about 15  15 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water.

Scrubs
Oat flour can be used in face and body scrubs to buff your face for a clean, soft finish. Here’s a few real easy ones:

Mild face scrub
Mix 1 part oatmeal flour with 1 part carrier oil (such as olive), wash off with warm water. Finish with some oat milk toner.

Oatmeal body scrub
Mix equal parts of olive oil and sugar with a bit of a carrier oil. Use as a body scrub instead of soap, wash with warm water. You’ll probably not need to moisturize after using this scrub.

Dry shampoo
If you have blonde hair, ground oats is a fantastic dry shampoo. Just rub some over your scalp, and brush excess oats out with a boar bristle brush.

Oat bran bath
Put about 1 dl (0.5 cup) of oat groans or rolled oats in some cloth and tie it up to make a small bag. Put this in your bath tub or in your foot bath. Press the bag a bit until the oatmeal “milk” comes out. You can also use this bag instead of soap on your body or face. It will give a light scrubbing and cleanse your skin and pores.

OPTIONAL: 1/4 tsp heavy whipping cream For dry skin
OPTIONAL: 1/4 tsp cranberry juice or apple cider vinegar For oily skin

I  know this looks like a Thanksgiving pie recipe at first glance, but we promise this yummy beauty recipe feeds your face, not your mouth. The pumpkin and cinnamon invigorate and exfoliate, while the honey acts as a humectant. First, combine all of your primary ingredients in a small bowl. Then, if you wish, add heavy whipping cream, cranberry juice, or apple cider vinegar depending on your complexion. Blend the mixture gently, and then apply a thin layer of it onto your face, avoiding the eye area. Relax for 15 minutes as you enjoy the amazing aroma wafting from your skin. Wash off with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Pureed Pumpkin Scrub

1/4 cup cooked pumpkin puree
1/4 cup brown sugar

The enzymes in this simple and delicious sugar scrub will slough dead winter skin off your body. Combine your ingredients in a small bowl, and then apply the mixture to your body in the shower. Scrub your skin gently in circular motions, and rinse off with warm water.

Pumpkin Pedicure

1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1 raw egg
1/2 tsp raw honey
Plastic wrap

Soften dry, cracked feet with this natural enzymatic concoction. Mix the ingredients together in a small bowl and apply to clean feet. Wrap your feet with clear plastic wrap and let your tootsies marinate for 15 minutes (don’t forget to wrap in between your toes!). After time is up, rinse with lukewarm water and slather feet with your favorite foot cream.

Pumpkin Body Scrub:

1/2 Cup- Cooked Pumpkin
1/2 Cup- Brown Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon- Cinnamon

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and stir. It’s a good idea to lay out some newspapers on your bathroom floor because this could get messy. Take your mixture and massage into your skin for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and your skin will be exfoliated, healthy and glowing!

Pumpkin Face Masque:

3 Tablespoons of cooked or canned Pumpkin
1 Teaspoon of Honey
1/4 Teaspoon of Milk

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and massage into your face. Let sit for 15 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Wash your face with your normal cleanser, if needed.

Glacial Mud Masque

My lavender vanilla facial has been a hit this summer; being that its meant for all skin types, women, men, and teens have come in for one. All the products used in this treatment are wonderful; however, the main “skin changer” is the masque. I’m actually thinking of keeping it in my treatments for a while.

The glacial facial purifying mineral mud masque is definitely making a huge difference in my client’s complexions and mine as well. Dull, dry, and mature skins to oily, acne prone and even sensitive skin type clients leave my studio looking refreshed, deeply cleansed, rejuvenated, and glow at the end of the facial. This particular mud mask is made with mineral enriched glacial clay, silt, and contains a special mixture of botanical and organic extracts. The clay comes from the waters of the Copper River Delta in Alaska and the organic botanical extracts come from the Pacific Northwest. Working Out with Make-up

A common place for single women to wanna look cute is the gym. Whatever your reason is for hitting the gym, whether to really work out or check out all the single male scenery, you want to look your best. I am not a big gym goer by all means, but what I have noticed is how many woman are working out with makeup on. Think of how much you spend on your favorite Chanel compact and bronzer…is it really worth mixing it with workout sweat and having it melt off your face? Not to mention what it does to your skin!

Makeup mixed with sweat can attract bacteria that will clog your pores and cause breakouts, blemishes, and acne issues. So always cleanse your skin first thing in the morning before you workout and always after you workout, especially if wearing makeup is a must. Covering that shiny sweat after a workout with more powder or foundation is just yucky and totally dirty for the skin.

If you absolutely need a foundation, stick to a mineral powder, something not to cakey, heavy, and that does not have talc in it. If your wanting a little bit of a cheek glow, use a mineral bronzer or blush. If your more fair skin toned, you naturally get rosy cheeks once you get your blood circulating, so you do not even need to worry about blush or bronzer. Mineral based foundations, powders, blushes, and bronzers will not clog up your pores as much as regular makeup.

Cant leave the house without mascara? Always use waterproof, yes I know, waterproof mascara can be a bit of a pain in the rear to remove, but doesn’t it make more sense to put a little more effort into removing your mascara than to be working out looking like a raccoon? With that said, you know there is no need for eyeliner either.

If you want to add some color to your lips, you don’t need lipstick. Why look like your trying to go to the club at the gym? If you want to keep your lips hydrated, try a tinted lip balm. Unlike lipsticks and lip glosses, balms have wax in them and stick to the skin nicely and will not run when mixed with sweat.

So you see, you still can look cute while getting your workout on. And after your body is invigorated from your work out and your skin is nicely cleansed, go ahead and pack on as much of that makeup as you want…don’t forget your smoky eye makeup and high shine lip-gloss.

Aloe Vera & Your Skin

After being at the beach all weekend I got a little more sun that I usually do. My shoulders and back went from a nice bronzy tan to a bright lobster red color. The first thing I did after taking a cold shower and rinsing away the sand was lather on aloe vera gel. Immediately, the heat from my shoulders and back were calmed down, soothed, and there was not as much discomfort. So why is aloe vera so good for sunburned skin? And what else is it good for? 

 The reason aloe vera is so healing on sunburn is because it has a cooling effect and provides a protective barrier over the skin to protect the burn.  Aloe is incredibly moisturizing (99% water) and has the ability to penetrate four times quicker than water alone. Aloe Vera is a cactus-like plant growing in the warmer climates of the world and are described as succulents. Aloe vera is a very popular herbal remedy. The Aloe vera plant (also called Aloe barbadensis) is unique among plants for its importance in natural skin care. Aloe vera contains burn healing effects, anti-inflammatory properties, scar reducing properties and wounds.  Aloe vera pulp is the clear, thick substance inside of the Aloe vera leaf. Freshen Skin for Spring

Spring is here!  Just in time too, because our skin sure could use a break from the cold and dryness of winter.  While moisturizers alone can help with dry skin, they can’t get rid of it.  This is the perfect time of year to get a facial and have all that dead and dry skin buffed off your face.  A facial will leave your skin feeling silky smooth and young.  Everyone who sees you will comment on that sudden glow, and will wonder how you’ve achieved it.  Spring-cleaning isn’t just for your house this time of year; it’s for your pores as well!  If you have dry skin, you may be experiencing some of these symptoms:

It is a symbol of prosperity and abundance in many cultures. Modern scientific studies have shown that this red fruit with its juicy arils also has an abundance of health benefits.

A Brief History

The name pomegranate is derived from Middle French—pomme garnete or “seeded apple.” Pomegranates are believed to have originated in Iran, known at that time as Persia. It is a fruit that is mentioned in Greek legends and ancient texts, including the Bible. Some even believe that it was a pomegranate, not an apple that was the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. The pomegranate was brought to Egypt in 1600 BC where it became revered not only as an important food source (it was a required fruit in the pharaoh’s palace), but it was also used for medicinal purposes. The pomegranate was highly valued and is depicted in paintings in Egyptian tombs as it symbolized life after death. It is a symbol of fertility in some cultures and prosperity in others, inspired by the abundance of jewel-toned seeds within the bright red and sturdy round rind. It has also been used in wedding rituals in several cultures.

Skin Care Benefits

It soothes dry, cracked and irritated skin. It contains punicic acid, an omega 5 fatty acid that hydrates and prevents moisture loss.
