Beauty Remedies with Oatmeal

October 29 is National Oatmeal Day! Oatmeal has long been a favorite breakfast dish and is meal that is not only a quick hunger fix, but is also full of wonderful health benefits. Oats provide a good source of fiber and are a great way to lower one’s blood cholesterol. Oatmeal is also recognized by the Food and Drug Administration as a food that may reduce the risk of heart disease in combination with a normal low-fat eating regimen. If you think that oatmeal is a popular dish in the United States, you will be surprised to learn that it has a number of long traditions in other countries. In Scotland, oatmeal has been a popular grain option for many years because oats are easier to grow than wheat particularly in light of the area’s short wet growing seasons. Traditionally, the Scots grind the oats into a coarse powder, separating it into different batches depending on the coarseness. The ground oats are then used in dishes such as porridge, brose, gruel, skirlie and haggis, as well as a number of other popular applications. In Switzerland, oatmeal is used in a popular cold breakfast dish called Muesli, where the oats are combined with milk, honey and other spices, refrigerated overnight and eaten the next day with nuts and fruits added to the dish. In the United States, Vermont has the biggest connection to oats and oatmeal due to the large number of Scottish settlers that came to the state. Today, Vermont is the leading state in per capita consumption of oatmeal. Whether you like your oats in a cookie, a smoothie or in a plain old batch of oatmeal with apples and cinnamon, give thanks to oatmeal on its national day.

Most of us think of oatmeal as something we eat for breakfast, but it can also be used for facials or skin treatments. It is very beneficial for your skin. It cleanses your skin without irritating or drying it out. In addition it helps relieve any dryness you might be feeling and helps maintain the moisture content in your skin.

Benefits Of Oatmeal:

Oatmeal is very beneficial for your skin. it is one of the best natural treatments for dry skin. It can also act as natural skin cleanser, facial scrub and soothing facial mask.

1.  It is anti-inflammatory. So, if you have redness along with dry and itchy skin, this could be your new best friend as it reduces redness and makes the complexion more toned and even.
2.  It is truly all in one cleanser.  It cleans, moisturizes, soothes and protects the skin. It helps heal the skin after exposure to the sun. When used as a skin cleanser, it actually absorbs and removes surface dirt and impurities while providing very gentle exfoliation, leaving skin smooth, soft, and clean, without soap.
3.  For those with skin irritations that have been caused as a result of using other cosmetic products or have been exposed to chemicals present in some cleaning products, then you should consider using oatmeal. This natural treatment method is also useful for people who have excessively scrubbed their skin. It cleanses deep pores without drying out or irritating the skin.
4. Oatmeal baths are highly recommended to people with acne. This is because of the soothing properties of oatmeal that provide relief to your skin.

 Homemade Oatmeal Beauty Recipes:

Face Masks Of Oatmeal:

Here are few simple ways in which you can prepare face masks using oatmeal and apply them regularly on your face:

Deep Cleansing Face Mask:

Mix 1 tablespoon of finely grounded oatmeal with 1 tablespoon of live organic yogurt and 1 small spoon of honey. Just beat the mixture until it becomes consistent enough to spread all over. If you warm the honey it will give more consistency to the mixture. Apply the mixture on a clean face and leave it on for  10- 15 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water and see the results.

Honey And Oatmeal Face Mask:

Mix 1 teaspoon olive oil, 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon instant oatmeal. Blend all these ingredients to make them consistent. Apply the mixture to  your face and leave it on for a few minutes. Rinse it off with luke warm water.

Oatmeal And Egg White Mask:

Mix oatmeal with one  egg white. Blend well and then apply to your face. Leave it on until it dries, which should take about 15  15 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water.

Scrubs
Oat flour can be used in face and body scrubs to buff your face for a clean, soft finish. Here’s a few real easy ones:

Mild face scrub
Mix 1 part oatmeal flour with 1 part carrier oil (such as olive), wash off with warm water. Finish with some oat milk toner.

Oatmeal body scrub
Mix equal parts of olive oil and sugar with a bit of a carrier oil. Use as a body scrub instead of soap, wash with warm water. You’ll probably not need to moisturize after using this scrub.

Dry shampoo
If you have blonde hair, ground oats is a fantastic dry shampoo. Just rub some over your scalp, and brush excess oats out with a boar bristle brush.

Oat bran bath
Put about 1 dl (0.5 cup) of oat groans or rolled oats in some cloth and tie it up to make a small bag. Put this in your bath tub or in your foot bath. Press the bag a bit until the oatmeal “milk” comes out. You can also use this bag instead of soap on your body or face. It will give a light scrubbing and cleanse your skin and pores.

Healthy Oatmeal Shake Recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 cup quick oats 2 cups water 1 cup fat free milk (or soy or almond milk would be fine) 1 cup ice 3 tbsp sugar (or agave or other sweetener) 1-2 tsp cinnamon

Preparation:

Cook oats and water in a small pot for about a minute or two, stirring often until it becomes thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and let it cool a few minutes. In a blender add milk, sugar, cinnamon. Add oats and ice. Blend on high until very smooth. Chill in refrigerator or pour in a glass over ice.

Organic Chocolate-Honey Facial

I’ll admit to having a bit of a sweet tooth. Two of my favorite sweet flavors are chocolate and honey. What’s not to love? They are both a glimpse of heaven when you taste them. With Valentine’s Day coming up, chocolate is kind of a big deal. So I thought it be fun to come up with a unique facial treatment with some of my favorite ingredients. My goal for your skin after I give you this delicious facial to provide powerful protein filled anti-oxidants, soften, reduce wrinkles, nourish & hydrate your skin, along with gently removing dead skin cells for a more rejuvenated tone. The two main recipes of this facial is the exfoliant and the masque, I will gladly share those recipes with you after my facial special. For now, I will go over a few of the ingredients in my mixtures, why I chose them, and what they do for your skin.

Chocolate:chocolate

Cocoa is very nourishing to the skin. It contains calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, vitamins A1, B1, B2, C, D, E, phosphorous & chromium. In addition to this, it also contains a polyphenol called epicatechin which is a natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory & anti-oxidant that helps to guard cells from free radical damage which causes skin to age.
Basically – the higher the cocoa content the more polyphenol, the healthier it is for you on the inside and out. (This is why I am using an organic cocoa) Some people believe that chocolate causes acne but according to dermatologists acne is caused to those people who consume chocolate which has milk in it and not the chocolate itself.

Honey:honey

Honey has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, which helps in fighting acne and pimples. It reduces infection and is very effective home remedy to treat acne. When honey is diluted with water, it produces hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is an antimicrobial agent and is used as a mild antiseptic; therefore it’s useful in treating cuts, wounds, and abrasions. Used in facials, it hydrates as it cleanses, because it soak ups impurities from the pores of the skin, leaving your skin clear, clean, and radiantly moisturized. Since honey is enriched with antioxidants, it’s a natural remedy to prevent wrinkles and fight skin aging and damage.

Baking Soda: bakingsoda

Baking soda is great for breakouts; it can loosen tough skin around blackheads and soothe inflammation around pimples. Baking soda also “calms” the skin. In the very topmost layers of cells in the epidermis, the tough outer layer of the skin, small amounts of bicarbonate from the baking soda can enter the skin. The bicarbonate encourages the transportation of sodium into these cells. Their metabolisms slow down so they go into their normal life cycle, dying about 21 days after they are formed in the basal layers of the skin. As the top layers of skin flake away, newer and healthier skin cells can come to the surface. They add more natural color to the skin, and they loosen the skin around tight pores.

Oatmeal:oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the best natural treatments for dry skin. It can be used to make a gentle and very effective natural skin cleanser, facial scrub, and soothing facial mask. Oatmeal helps to relieve dryness, restoring natural moisture balance to aid in healing minor irritations due to the many causes and sources of skin sensitivities. Oatmeal actually absorbs and removes surface dirt and impurities while providing very gentle exfoliation, leaving skin smooth, soft, and clean, without irritating and drying out skin. The best thing about oatmeal in my opinion is it effectively removes dead skin cells, to reveal smoother looking skin and provides the bonus of a natural, healthy glow.
