Skin Care & Pomegranates

pomegranateIn the past few years the pomegranate has been touted as a super food, but it was known for medicinal and beauty benefits and much more in ancient times. It is a symbol of prosperity and abundance in many cultures. Modern scientific studies have shown that this red fruit with its juicy arils also has an abundance of health benefits.

A Brief History

The name pomegranate is derived from Middle French—pomme garnete or “seeded apple.” Pomegranates are believed to have originated in Iran, known at that time as Persia. It is a fruit that is mentioned in Greek legends and ancient texts, including the Bible. Some even believe that it was a pomegranate, not an apple that was the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. The pomegranate was brought to Egypt in 1600 BC where it became revered not only as an important food source (it was a required fruit in the pharaoh’s palace), but it was also used for medicinal purposes. The pomegranate was highly valued and is depicted in paintings in Egyptian tombs as it symbolized life after death. It is a symbol of fertility in some cultures and prosperity in others, inspired by the abundance of jewel-toned seeds within the bright red and sturdy round rind. It has also been used in wedding rituals in several cultures.

Skin Care Benefits

With its incredible antioxidant, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties and ability to encourage radiant skin, the pomegranate has been incorporated into skin care. It can help with a number of skin care issues including dry skin, oily skin, age spots, hyperpigmentation, and acne breakouts.

Cell Regeneration. Pomegranates help protect the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) and helps with skin cell regeneration in the epidermis and dermis (inner layer), increasing circulation and healing the skin, aiding in tissue repair and wound healing.

Sun Protection. Pomegranates have sun protective compounds that protect the skin against free radical damage, help facialprevent skin cancer, relieve sunburn and reduce the signs of sun damage. Pomegranate seed oil works to protect against skin cancer because of ellagic acid, a polyphenol antioxidant found in large quantities in pomegranates, which researchers have found inhibits the growth of skin tumors.

Anti-Aging. Pomegranates protect against premature aging by helping reduce the signs of skin aging caused by sun damage and exposure, such as wrinkles and fine lines. Pomegranates also help prevent hyperpigmentation and age spots.

Youthful Skin. Pomegranates promote smooth, firm skin by promoting collagen and elastin production and soften skin.

Dry Skin. It is a great ingredient for skin care because its small molecular structure allows it to penetrates deeply into the skin. It works for most skin types, (which depends on the skin care ingredients pomegranate is combined with). Since pomegranate oil penetrates deeply into the skin, it is effective for treating dry skin. It soothes dry, cracked and irritated skin. It contains punicic acid, an omega 5 fatty acid that hydrates and prevents moisture loss.

6. Oily Skin/Combination Skin. Pomegranate oil even works for oily skin and the use of pomegranate have been beneficial in skin care products for acne prone skin, to combat breakouts, reduce scarring and sooth minor irritations.

Feed your skin antioxidants by scheduling a pomegranate facial; this facial is for all skin types. It includes skin analysis, cleansing, exfoliation, an impurity treatment for blackheads & whiteheads, masque, warm towel application, and a neck, shoulder, scalp, & face massage.

Jade Roller – Facial Massager, Wrinkle Reducer

Jade rollers are made of 100% jade crystals. It was believed that early Chinese Emperors and Empresses used jade rollers as a beauty tool to promote smooth and youthful skin.  These accessories were in fact seen in the tombs of Chinese royalties and can be seen displayed in the Emperor’s bedroom in China’s Forbidden City.

Jade rollers have been an essential accessory of the beauty chest for these people for several years and are still used today. These days, the jade rollers have been discovered by many foreign travelers to attain similar purpose. And as people long to have lovely, flawless skin, a device to reduce wrinkles was very interesting to them.  To use a jade roller, they just have to sweep the jade roller gently over their face. It cools and heals the skin after using the roller. It invigorates the tissues to provide a supple skin, minimize wrinkles, and restore a youthful look. This also provides good circulation. Using the smaller roller is great for the temples and around the eyes. A wider roller works well on the forehead, cheeks, and neck. This is great for lymphatic drainage, open pores, discoloration, firming, toning, puffiness, and sagging skin.  Men too benefit from the soothing effect of the jade on their eyes and temples. This relieves them from headaches and stress. Evidence also shows that this alleviates sinus congestion and pain. Use this daily and you will notice that it is a natural and safer option for maintaining a youthful look.
Book your facial today and ask for the Jade roller to be added on…you’ll love it!

Galvanic Body Sculpting Treatment

Galvanic Body Sculpting Treatment

New galvanic technology treatments; to smooth and minimize the appearance of stretch marks, body fat, & cellulite for slimmer, firmer, and youthful looking skin. (Great for loose skin after pregnancy & weight loss) A gentle galvanic current and body gels are used to hand sculpt away those unsightly cellulite pockets around the hips and thighs, as well minimize stretch marks, or tighten up loose belly skin. Even flabby underarms can be tightened with a 2 – 4 week series of treatments. This cellulite treatment process creates a flow of fresh oxygenated blood that rich in natural nutrients, causing the release and clearing of waste and toxins from the fat cells reducing and eliminating cellulite because it addresses the root cause directly and not just the symptom.  It activates, stimulates and rejuvenates the lymphatic system with a reverse deep tissue massage technique. This subsequently breaks up and removes the orange peel cellulite look and results in smooth and toned skin.  Done in 30-minutes, these non-invasive cellulite-busting sessions can potentially break stored fat away from cell walls — and metabolize that same fat, the improved circulation removes the “sludge” leaving the fibrous tissue soft, healthy and flexible, keeping skin looking more youthful.body spa

Cellulite is the dimpled appearance of the skin that occurs when fat deposits sit just below the skin’s surface. This is a common problem, particularly for women. The thighs, buttocks and stomach are the most common areas where cellulite builds up. Cellulite typically shows up sometime after puberty. It is not a dangerous problem, and it is not necessarily a sign of obesity. Even slender people can develop cellulite, because everyone has fat just underneath the skin.

How often are treatments performed?  The initial treatment series consists of 3 treatment sessions- treatments are performed 1-3x a week. Some clients see the improvements as soon as 2- sessions, while others may need 4-6 sessions. Maintenance treatments are typically done every 3-6 months after the initial series in order to keep up the results achieved. Each treatment session is between 20-45 minutes long, but the time varies depending on a client’s size and how many treatment sites are indicated.

tummy 1How long are the results visible for?

After your first session you can still see results up to 72 hours later.   Once you begin regular sessions you will have longer lasting results.  Then after 3 months you are just doing maintenance sessions.  Think of it like a gym workout…once you are at your peak physically then you just need to maintain it.

How soon should I see a difference in my skin using the ageLOC Galvanic Body Spa?

Individual results will vary. The research to date indicates the consumer should see improvements in as little as eight weeks.

back treatedWhat is the benefit of using pulsating galvanic current on the body?

Direct (galvanic) currents, whether pulsating or not, can assist in the delivery of like charged key ingredients to the skin by improving osmotic flow. This is increasingly important for enhancing delivery of key ingredients to areas with thicker skin. Additional research shows that the pulsating current enhances fluid vibration, which, in turn, promotes healthy circulation. Pulsating galvanic currents aid in stimulating skin and increasing cellular communication to help purify and refresh skin and help reduce the visible signs of skin aging. Pulsating galvanic currents are optimally designed for use on the body where the skin can benefit from enhanced fluid vibration. body spa

Natural Ways to Treat Cellulite:

Exercises for treatment of cellulite:

  •  Cardiovascular exercises such as running, jogging and swimming are effective for the treatment.
  • Squats and Lunges targets buttock, thighs and pelvic muscles.
  • Pelvic lift or bridge is also a target type exercise for toning the buttock, hamstrings and quads.

Additional Ways to Rid Your Body of Cellulite:

  •  Body brushing makes the skin brighter and smoother and softer. Like any exfoliator, it sloughs away dead, dry surface cells – you can see the fine powder it creates. It is also thought to stimulate the lymphatic system and circulation helping to tackle cellulite.
  • Massage: Getting rid of cellulite by massage is NOT a way to entirely cure, but it is more of an alternative method in reducing the ugly appearance of cellulite in your skin.  Basically you are increasing circulation and helping with lymphatic drainage here too.

What Causes Cellulite?

Causes of cellulite are varied but the most common cause is related to poor blood circulation, reduced venous flow, impaired lymphatic drainage and fluid retention which can trigger the transformation of subcutaneous fat cells into cellulite. The predisposition to cellulite seems to be genetically inherited. Some people simply have more fat cells, weak veins, fragile lymphatic vessels, poor circulation or hormonal sensitivity.

celluliteThe Truth about Cellulite:

Cellulite is the term used to describe deposits of fat and other material trapped in pockets of connective tissue beneath the skin. Cellulite causes the progressive dimpling appearance of the skin. The main factors responsible for cellulite are excess consumption of saturated fats, lack of exercise, poor hydration and imbalances in hormonal function. 80% of all women are affected by cellulite.   Also do not forget that genetics always plays a part.

Why do females have more cellulite than men? Cellulite occurs more frequently in women than in men because of the way subcutaneous fat is compartmentalized.

The following also contribute to cellulite in one way or another:

  •  Female Hormones
  • Pregnancy
  • Stress
  • Sedentary Lifestyles
  • Smoking
  • Enlarged Lymph Nodes
  • Obesity

It is important to understand that these factors may not contribute equally in different people. In some people there may be primary and contributing factors to cellulite.

Cellulite has 5 stages of development and is considered a solely cosmetic condition. Indeed, until recently, cellulite was not acknowledged in medical literature. Now, research has shown that changes over time in the body’s skin structure actually lead to the transformation of fat cells into cellulite.

STAGE 1– Blood microcirculation, venous flow, and/or lymphatic drainage to the subcutaneous layer are impaired. Reduced blood circulation starves and weakens the surrounding tissue, making it more susceptible to cellulite. Reduced venous flow translates to higher fluid retention and pooling of the blood. Reduced lymphatic drainage means that lymph fluids, which normally carry waste away from the cells, are trapped in the area. The septae connective tissue may begin to become more fibrous. In this stage, all the changes are not visible to the naked eye. There may not be any other symptoms, with the possible exception of cuts and bruises taking longer to heal because of the impaired circulation.

STAGE 2 – Once the circulation is reduced, the capillaries and veins become weakened and leak blood into the surrounding tissue. This increases the pressure in the tissue and restricts circulation and fluid drainage even more. In this stage, you may notice thicker and tenderer skin than normal, as well as discoloration or broken veins. The skin more also bruise more easily, however, there is no appearance of the lumpy cellulite bumps yet.

STAGE 3 – After a few months of lymphatic fluid buildup, the fat tissues become swollen and begin to push against the outer skin, the first signs of the lumps and the “orange peel” look appear.

STAGE 4 – The static lymphatic fluid causes the fibrous septae to congeal into thicker fibers. Cells starved of oxygen and nutrients may also become incorporated into these fibers, thus adding to the thickness of the fibers. These fibers begin to trap and squeeze the fat cells, which press on the surrounding tissue and reduce area circulation even more. Because of the lack of circulation the skin may feel cold to the touch.

STAGE 5 – Because of the high pressure, blood circulation is re-routed around the cellulite area. Septae fibers continue to grow to an extent that the fat cells are completely trapped. Although fat continues to be stored in these cells, it is not efficiently removed through exercise or diet because of the poor circulation. In this stage, the thick fibers, trapped fat cells and stagnant fluids form a honeycomb structure called steatomes, this causes the “cheesecake” lumps and bumps that are the hallmark of cellulite.

Microdermabrasion: The Magic Wand of Skin Care

Microdermabrasion is one of the most frequently sought after non-surgical, non invasive skin care treatments available. Microdermabrasion is safe, quick, convenient and effective for all skin colors and types. It has been performed successfully for years in Europe and is now one of the most popular cosmetic procedures.

It is great for:

Reducing fine lines and minor scars

Treating acne blemishes

Removing sun and age spots

Cleaning enlarged and clogged pores, blackheads and whiteheads

Restoring a healthy, smooth feel to skin

Helping fight signs of aging

Hyperpigmentation

Microdermabrasion is safe, quick, convenient and proven effective for all skin colors and types, from light to dark, dry to oily. This age-defying process can give a brighter, smoother appearance to any skin area in need of exfoliation such as face, neck, hands and chest.       Whether you have a problem area or just want a quick pick-me-up; brighter, smoother skin is waiting for you in just a few treatments. The benefits are crystal clear.

A precise stream of aluminum oxide crystals is directed through a hand piece onto the skin. This, in turn, loosens and exfoliates the top layer of dead cells. The skin is simultaneously vacuumed to reveal a fresher, healthier looking you.

Microdermabrasion promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layers of the dermis and stimulates the growth of collagen to further smooth and improve skin tone and appearance. Best results are achieved through a series of treatments and a regular maintenance program. Recommended for all skin types. Microdermabrasion is a great way to reduce occasional blemish flare-ups, a deep cleansing facial and as preventative skin care to fight the first signs of aging before they actually appear.

For optimum results, Microdermabrasion involves a series of treatments. True, modest results may be achieved with a single visit. However, it is unrealistic and unfounded to expect significant change from just one treatment. In the final analysis, the number of treatments depends on the type of skin you have. You may experience a tightness and redness of the skin, comparing it to the feeling of mild sunburn.
