Intimate Brazilian Wax Benefits

Aside from being hair-free, smooth, and not having to worry about shaving, many women (and men) love to get a Brazilian wax to spice up their love lives and surprise their significant others. It is never a dull moment in my lil spa room when I have brazilian wax the lil spa rooma client anxiously waiting for me to pull that first strip of wax off her girly parts. In fact, we are usually cracking up a storm & as shy and embarrassed as my clients have expected to be, they are way far from that. I’ve had many clients ask lots of questions on how Brazilian waxes can enhance their sex lives and if it’s safe to have sex on their wedding night after a wax. Many feel they are the only ones asking such questions and they’re not. I get emailed the same type of questions all the time (especially from a bride to be); hopefully I answer some of them in this blog.

What are the perks of getting a Brazilian wax before a “special” occasion?

While on vacation, a hot date, or romantic getaway who wants to worry about shaving and carrying razors? You will feel refreshed, free, and be hassle-free. Scheduling 2 waxes before your event is the safest way to go if you have extremely sensitive skin; we want to make sure your skin calms down and you have no reactions. Usually, the second wax provides a much cleaner and smoother result with less post wax tenderness. If you don’t have time to fit in two waxing sessions before your big event, I recommend getting wax at least 2-4 days before depending on how sensitive your skin is. brazilian wax the lil spa room

Can I be intimate the same day I get a Brazilian wax?

Well, yes and no. if you are extremely sensitive, prone to ingrown hairs, or have never had a wax done, friction and perspiration may aggravate the skin making your skin more susceptible to folicullitis. (Bacteria in your hair follicle)

In a recent poll 91% men said that they found it both more attractive and erotic.

And the BIG question: Does getting a Brazilian wax enhance intimacy?

Well of course! Being hair free means odor free or free of anything else “sticking’ around in that area. Your lover will definitely enjoy the smoothness wherever and whatever they plan on doing with that area. Wink Wink! Lingerie will also feel and look so much sexier without hair creeping out of your panty/thong line. Most of my clients have mentioned feeling more feminine, sexy, and sensual with their partners after a Brazilian wax and are having more intense orgasms because all their “bits” are fully exposed causing more sensitivity, in a good way of course.

“As Carrie Bradshaw said in an episode of Sex and the City, “I feel like I’m nothing but walking sex!”

Pre & Post Brazilian Waxing

These Brazilian waxing tips will help you prepare your skin, take the pain factor down and minimize possible bumps and irritation afterwards. A lot of women opt for this service because they like the feeling of the entire Brazilian area being totally, or almost hair-free. While you need to be cautious any time you remove hair, because of its specialty nature, it should be treated with extra care.

Pre Brazilian Waxing Prep:

  • Particularly for women. Your skin is often more sensitive the time near your period and waxing can be more painful than normal. So your appointment shouldn’t be any closer than a couple of days before or after your period. It is not a good idea to get a Brazilian wax while you’re on your period.
  • Cleanliness. Shower and lightly exfoliate your entire bikini area right before your appointment using warm, not hot water. Make sure you’re extra clean.
  • Skip this step. Don’t use any lotions in Brazilian area.
  • Hair for now. You need some hair growth for the wax to hold onto. If it’s too long, you may want to trim a little.
  • Pain preventers. Take an aspirin or Tylenol 30- 45 minutes before your appointment if you’re worried about pain. The type of wax I use is especially for that area so all you will feels is a quick sting.

Post Brazilian Waxing Care:

  • Watch your fashion choices. Don’t wear tight panties for the next few days.
  • Hands off. Keep hands away from touching freshly waxed skin, as this can encourage irritation or small pimples.
  • Opt for a shower. Don’t take a hot bath for the rest of the day.
  • Too hot. No tanning beds, saunas or steam rooms for the next two days.
  • Sexual Activity. Sexual activity should be avoided for at least 24 hours ONLY if your skin feels extremely sensitive. Aloe Vera helps soothe and calm the area if this happens (which is very rare). This is great to help prevent ingrown hair.

More Brazilian Wax Benefits

If you are considering getting a Brazilian wax, here are some fun perks:

Waxing is hygienic. It is the pubic region that is handled and pubic hair collects germs that can cause bad odors. Waxing your entire pubic region will dramatically reduce the risk of these problems. (Shaving can cause bumps, ingrown hairs and itching).

It reduces the effect of perspiration in that area. The area between your legs perspires and if you have pubic hair, the bacteria can nestle in that hair. If you are void of hair, the perspiration will be absorbed directly into your underwear, minimizing the chance of a bacterial infection.

Some say it is sensual as they experienced more intense orgasms after this type of waxing. Now that’s a major perk! 😉

Many men (and women) love them. In one poll, 91% of men said that they found it more attractive and erotic.

The waxing takes at least 15 to 30 minutes to get done, which is fairly quick. You’ll feel a quick sting and it’s over before you know it! Keep your mind on the results! 😉

The effects can last between 4 to 8 weeks. Shaving barely lasts one day. This is because the hair is removed from the root or the follicle, instead of cutting it at the level of the skin as with shaving.

Any discomfort you may have felt during the first session is diminished each time you get one and your body gets used to it as the hair grows back finer and thinner.

All in all, the experience really isn’t as horrific as you think. So…what are you waiting for? Give it a try!

No Glove, No Love…Double Dips & Dirty Sticks…Same Old Sheet Isn’t Neat.

I was reading a post from a fellow esthetician today; she had a new client come in for a Brazilian wax. The client questioned if she was going to wear gloves during the procedure. The esthetician was shocked when she asked this; I was shocked when I read it, so I an only imagine how she felt being asked this in person! The client mentioned that the first time she had a Brazilian wax; the esthetician did not wear gloves during the procedure. For those of you that have had a Brazilian wax with me, friend or family, I wear gloves all the time. How can anyone put their hands on someone’s private area to perform a waxing service without gloves?! That is awful, unsanitary, & illegal.

If you are getting Brazilian (or bikini & French waxes) waxes & your esthetician is not using gloves, you have no idea how dangerous it can be, not only for you but for your esthetician as well. You don’t know what illnesses they could possibly have, even if you have your client fill out an intake form, sometimes people do not want to share their full medical history with you. It can also be dangerous because blood can sometimes surface from waxing. Waxing leaves small wounds on your skin. The follicles are left open and can bleed, especially if you have extremely thick, coarse hair, this is totally normal. Even if your follicles don’t bleed, you have crossed the blood barrier of the skin. With your skin open, you are vulnerable to such things as a staph infection, MSRA, even Hepatitis.

Please demand your esthetician to wear gloves every time they give you a Brazilian wax. Even if you watch them wash their hands, there are still places for bacteria to remain, such as her fingernails. You don’t know if they have something as innocuous as a paper cut you can’t see that could potentially expose you to a deadly disease. This is not only for your protection as a client but also for the safety of the esthetician. So always remember…NO glove…No love.

Also, always make sure they are using clean sheets on the bed every time. Many places don’t change their linens, if you’re suspicious of the esthetician using dirty linens; ask for a clean towel to be put under you. When I wax my clients, I use special disposable waxing paper that is changed after every wax, just like when you go to a doctor’s office, along with a clean towel.

Another common problem is double dipping. If your esthetician double dips, meaning she uses the stick to apply the wax then dips it back into the pot again, leave. You are exposing yourself to the germs of countlessstrangers and then that is being spread onto your skin. Even worse, there is the likely hood that the applications will slightly overlap so that wax is being spread onto tiny open wounds. Imagine if the wax being used on your lip was used to do someone’s Brazilian. Wouldn’t you find that rather disgusting? It could be possible if they double dip! When I give Brazilian waxes to my clients, I probably use anywhere from 10-25 wax sticks. If you noticed your esthetician used 1 or 2 wax sticks for your service, they are more than likely double dipping.

Your esthetician should always follow all proper sanitation rules every time you get a Brazilian wax or any waxing involved in your private area. This is not only for your protection but your estheticians as well. Keep in mind, if the esthetician that has been waxing you without wearing gloves, using dirty linens, & double dipping the wax sticks, they are also waxing all their other clients this way. This just shows how important the client’s safety is to them & how they are not protecting themselves as professionals, especially since their hands are what keeps them in business.

Try to get your Brazilian wax with someone that has a good reputation, go with referrals from friends or family, & definitely someone that is experienced. Be careful with the nail salons that offer waxing, yes, most of them are very cheap, but most of the nail techs that work in those places are not properly trained to give waxes…you get what you pay for. If you look around the wax room inside most of those nail salons, the wax pots usually have old dirty wax caked on them, tweezers all soiled with wax & hair on them, & the same dirty sheet full of wax, hair, & whatever products they use in there wax services.

There are many great estheticians out in the Spa & Salon industry that take proper care of their clients in the safest & most sanitary way. Unfortunately there are those few that don’t take pride in their profession & the safety of their clients, sad to say, it’s out there. Getting a Brazilian wax has so many benefits, you don’t have to shave, risk getting ingrown hair, & the more you wax, the less it grows back. Don’t let all these things scare you, just make sure to get a Brazilian wax with a clean, safe esthetician that has your safety & their own, their top priority.

A Spa Funny: An at Home Brazilian Wax Gone Wrong

waxClients always think Brazilian waxing is so easy that they can do it at home themselves. But when they purchase a home wax kit and attempt to wax themselves, something always goes wrong. I’ve had male and female clients call me for emergency advice and usually end up coming into my spa studio because body parts are stuck shut together…literally!  As funny as it may sound, it’s no joke at all. You can pull skin off and really hurt yourself. Licensed spa professionals that specialize in Brazilian waxing have been properly trained how to prep the skin, wax the area, and end the service correctly. Leave the private part waxing to the professionals! A client of mine shared this funny story with me, maybe it will make you think twice before you attempt to wax yourself. Enjoy the story!

My night began as any other normal weeknight.

Come home, fix dinner, play with the kids. I then had the thought that would ring painfully in my mind for the next few hours: ‘Maybe I should pull the waxing kit out of the medicine cabinet. So I headed to the site of my demise: the bathroom. It was one of those ‘cold wax’ kits. No melting a clump of hot wax, you just rub the strips together in your hand, they get warm and you
peel them apart and press them to your leg (or wherever else) and you pull the hair right off.

No muss, no fuss. How hard can it be? I mean, I’m not a genius, but I am mechanically inclined enough to figure this out.
(YA THINK!?!)

So I pull one of the thin strips out. Its two strips facing each other stuck together. Instead of rubbing them together, my genius kicks in so I get out the hair dryer and heat it to 1000 degrees.
‘Cold wax,’ yeah…right!) I lay the strip across my20thigh. Hold the skin around it tight and pull. It works!

OK, so it wasn’t the best feeling, but it wasn’t too bad. I can do this! Hair removal no longer eludes me!

I am She-rah, fighter of all wayward body hair and maker of smooth skin extraordinaire.

With my next wax strip I move north. After checking on the kids,
I sneak back into the bathroom, for the ultimate hair fighting
championship. I drop my panties and place one foot on the toilet.

Using the same procedure, I apply the wax strip across the right side of my bikini line, covering the right half of my hoo-ha and stretching down to the inside of my butt cheek (it was a long
strip) I inhale deeply and brace myself….RRRRIIIPPP!!!!

I’m blind!!! Blinded from pain!!!!….OH MY GAWD!!!!!!!!!

Vision returning, I notice that I’ve only managed to pull off half the strip. CRAP! Another deep breath and RIPP! Everything is
spinning and spotted.

I think I may pass out…..must stay conscious…must stay conscious. Do I hear crashing drums??? Breathe,
breathe…OK, back to normal.
I want to see my trophy – a wax covered strip, the one that has caused me so much pain, with my hairy pelt sticking to it. I
want to revel in the glory that is my triumph over body hair.
I hold up the strip!

There’s no hair on it.

Where is the hair??? WHERE IS THE WAX???

Slowly I ease my head down, foot still perched on the toilet. I see the hair. The ha ir that should be on the strip…it’s not! I touch. I am touching wax.

I run my fingers over the most sensitive part of my body, which is now covered in cold wax and matted hair. Then I make the next
BIG mistake… remember my foot is still propped upon the toilet? I know I need to do something. So I put my foot down.

Sealed shut! My butt is sealed shut. Sealed shut!

I penguin walk around the bathroom trying to figure out what to do and think to myself ‘Please don’t let me get the urge to
poop..

My head may pop off!’ What can I do to melt the wax?

Hot water!! Hot water melts wax!! I’ll run the hottest water I can stand, into the bathtub, get in, immerse the wax-covered
bits and the wax should melt and I can gently wipe it off, right???
*WRONG!!!!!!!*

I get in the tub – the water is slightly hotter than that used to torture prisoners of war or sterilize surgical equipment – I sit.

Now, the only thing worse than having your nether regions glued together, is having them glued together and then glued to the
bottom of the tub….in scalding hot water.

Which, by the way, doesn’t melt cold wax.

So, now I’m stuck to the bottom of the tub as though I had cemented myself to the porcelain!! God bless the man who had convinced me a few months ago to have a phone put in the bathroom!!!!!

I call my friend, thinking surely she has waxed before and has some secret of how to get me u ndone. It’s a very good
conversation starter. ‘So, my butt and hoo-ha are glued together to the bottom of the tub!’

There is a slight pause. She doesn’t know any secret tricks for removal but she does try to hide her laughter from me.

She wants to know exactly where the wax is located,
Are we talking cheeks or hoo-ha?’

She’s laughing out loud by now . I can hear her. I give her the rundown and she suggests I call the number on the side of the
box. YEAH!!!!! Right!! I should be the joke of someone else’s night.

While we go through various solutions. I resort to trying to scrape the wax off with a razor. Nothing feels better than to have
your girlie goodies covered in hot wax, glued shut, stuck to the tub in super hot water and then dry-shaving the sticky wax off!! By now the brain is not working, dignity has taken a major hike and I’m pretty sure I’m going to need Post-Traumatic Stress counseling for this event.

My friend is still talking with me when I finally see my saving grace….the lotion they give you to remove the excess wax.
What do I really have to lose at this point? I rub
some on and OH MY GOD!!!!!!! The scream probably woke the kids and scared the dickens out of my friend. It’s sooo painful, but I really don’t care.

IT WORKS!!

It works !!’ I get a hearty congratulation from my friend and she hangs up. I successfully remove the remainder of the wax and
then notice to my grief and despair… THE HAIR IS STILL THERE…….ALL OFIT!
So I recklessly shave it off. Heck, I’m numb by now. Nothing hurts. I could have amputated my own leg at this point.

Next week I’m going to try hair color……

Hope you enjoyed this funny tale! I know I did…I was laughing so hard I was in tears! If you ever want a Brazilian wax….give me a call! Not sure what the difference is between a Brazilian & Bikini wax?

Go Brazilian & Never Go Back!

Does it hurt?

A little painful, yes, but the results are well worth it. You’ll eventually get used to the discomfort. Routine waxing helps to reduce the pain, and will minimize irritation.

What should I do to prepare for my visit?

You should arrive “freshened up”!

How long should my hair be?

Hair growth should be at least 1/4″-1/2″ (about 2 week’s growth) for the most effective waxing. Hair should be carefully trimmed if necessary. It should be free from oils and lotion to make hair removal easier.

How long should I wait to get waxed after I’ve shaved?

You need some growth for the wax to adhere to the hair. Hair should be at least 1/4″ (about 2 week’s growth) for the most effective waxing.

How long will it last?

The results will last anywhere from three to six weeks. I recommend booking appointments every 4 to 6 weeks. The hair eventually gets softer and thinner every time it grows back.

What can I expect afterwards?

After you get your Brazilian wax, it is likely that your skin may be slightly pink in color and feel like mild sunburn. You can apply Neosporin to calm down the area if it bothers you a lot.

What can I do About Ingrown Hair?

I recommend using a loofah sponge 24 hours after waxing. This is a great routine to do every day to get rid of the dead skin cells and help “lift” the hairs growing out. It will also help to speed up the hair removal process.

What are the possible side effects of waxing and how can they be minimized?

  • Although I can not predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation, which lasts for a few hours. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs.
  • Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and please wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
  • Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofas for at least 24 hours after waxing as they might further irritate your skin.
  • Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs.
  • Regular exfoliation may be helpful to remove dead skin so your hairs can get out above the surface of the pores and not become ingrown.
  • Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation.

*An annoying consequence of shaving: hair curls into the skin and grows in the wrong direction, resulting in a red, irritated bumps that can become infected. To help avoid ingrown hairs, I recommend waxing over shaving. It helps pop out the stubborn hair out of your skin to keep the skin healthy.

The benefits to Brazilian waxing

You’ll feel all clean and shiny, and you’ll be slick during intercourse. The results will last anywhere from three –six weeks (some even longer), with no maintenance, and there’s no shave that can get you this smooth. In fact, that’s the biggest benefit — no more shaving! For me, a Brazilian wax is the way to go. A little painful (feels like a rubber band snapping at you), yes, but the results are well worth it. You eventually get used to the discomfort, and once you do you’ll never need to prop that leg up in the shower again. You’ll be happy. Your partner will be happy. It’ll be a smooth experience.
